Opinion: WHO oxygen resolution is an opportunity for medical gas sector

The Foundation's lead for its Medical Oxygen Programme, Emma Cahuzac, and Head of Industry Engagement, Karen Eryou, write an op-ed for Devex. It highlights what the WHO's adoption of the resolution on medical oxygen means for those companies that produce this lifesaving resource.

Cahuzac and Eryou emphasise that while the resolution does not specifically address companies, it does require actions from member states and these set out the priorities ahead.

"Aligning with key objectives in the resolution can help these companies to catalyze their efforts to make medical oxygen available and affordable to all patients, and to demonstrate their commitment to their key role in the global health ecosystem."

The op-ed is a call to action on the back of the Foundation's report on access to medical oxygen: companies can make use of the 'roadmap' provided by the resolution, and lend their support to a more focused and unified approach to address the chronic shortages in medical oxygen in low- and middle-income countries.
