To mark the launch of its new report on funding for R&D, Policy Cures Research is hosting a panel discussion alongside the 2024 World Health Assembly (WHA), which takes place between 27 May and 1 June in Geneva, Switzerland. During her attendance at WHA, Jayasree will moderate the panel at the Policy Cures Research launch event, titled “Investing to save lives and secure economic growth”.
Funding for R&D in the global health space is essential for the invention of new, more effective and more affordable medications and antimicrobial drugs. It’s also key to ensuring the equity of access to these products. Drawing on her expertise and the Foundation's work on expanding access to essential healthcare products in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including findings from the Foundation’s upcoming publication on antimicrobial R&D, Jayasree will steer the discussion to focus on addressing the following key issues:
How can stakeholders collaborate effectively to explore new financing mechanisms for global health R&D, ensuring equitable resource allocation and policy alignment?
What strategies should be prioritised to promote strategic diversification in global health R&D portfolios, mitigating risks and maximising impact? How can regulatory and scale-up pathways be optimised to enhance product approval timelines and ensure widespread access, especially in LMICs?
How can collaboration between R&D and access initiatives be strengthened to align product development with efforts to improve healthcare access, particularly in underserved regions?
How best to position this new investment case for global health R&D on the crowded agendas of funders, product developers and decision-makers?
What are the key opportunities for collaboration to deliver the highest impact in the next ten years?
