Esteban Burrone is a member of the Expert Committee for the Generic & Biosimilar Medicines Programme. Esteban is the Head of Policy, Strategy and Market Access of the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP), an institution he contributed to setting up in 2010 to promote access to affordable health products in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs), through the licensing of intellectual property.
At MPP, Esteban leads on exploring strategic opportunities for MPP and on developing partnerships with organizations and stakeholders to support access to health products. He oversees MPP’s flagship MedsPaL and VaxPaL databases that provide information on the patent status of essential medicines and COVID vaccines in LMICs. Esteban is also a member of the Senior Management Team of MPP. He has over 20 years of experience working in the field of intellectual property rights and access to medicines. Esteban is an Argentinian and Italian national holds a MSc. in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicines and an MSc. in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.Â
