Boitumelo has contributed to several thought leadership projects across the African continent, such as the African Union Strategy for Health Research, the East Africa Community Regional Bioeconomy Strategy and the World Health Organization (WHO) Afro Expert Panel on scaling health innovations in Africa. She was also on the South African Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19 at the National Department of Health.
She formerly served as the Executive Director at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Biosciences and managed a biotechnology incubator at the Innovation Hub Management Company. For two years, she was also a McKinsey Leadership Fellow at McKinsey & Company, and she is now a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative.
Boitumelo holds a PhD in Biochemistry, completed postdoctoral research at the University of Nottingham and the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne, and has authored several scientific publications. She serves on multiple scientific advisory committees and boards of directors.
