Breakthrough deal to help solve Covid oxygen crisis

Madlen Davies, Rosa Furneaux, Chrissie Giles, Ben du Preez, and Miriam Wells of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism write about the landmark agreement to bring medical oxygen to people in low- and middle-income countries.

In the article, the authors write about the groundbreaking agreement announced between Air Liquide and Linde, two of the world's largest medical oxygen producers, and the global health initiative Unitaid. The agreement, also chartered by Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), aims to close oxygen access gaps in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The authors write that the agreement was preempted by a series of roundtables, hosted by the Access to Medicine Foundation and the Every Breath Counts Coalition, that aimed to bring together medical gas companies, investors, global health organisations and government agencies to explore opportunities to increase access to medical oxygen in LMICs.
