The Access to Medicine Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Our mission is to guide and incentivise essential healthcare companies to do more people living in low- and middle-income countries who cannot access the healthcare products they need. To trigger radical change inside these companies, the Foundation uses a combination of data, research insights, rankings and report cards, while leveraging a network of influential stakeholders, including investors, policymakers in governments, and the public. For each sector and access issue, the Foundation builds networks of influence, to ensure that tailored approaches are used. Our events form a critical avenue for activating these networks.
The Foundation runs several programmes for specific industries, e.g., innovative pharmaceutical companies, generic medicine manufacturers and medical gas companies, as well as cross-cutting programmes on, e.g., antimicrobial resistance and diabetes care. These programmes include research programmes with set periods of analysis and reporting processes.
The Research writer will create crisp content based on objective and structured assessment by the Continuous Intelligence Unit of critical new initiatives and developments by essential healthcare companies as these developments are announced throughout the year. This writing is developed in line with research programmes and in addition to programme reports, and is to be used in direct communications and on the website. The Continuous Intelligence Unit works closely with the Foundation’s research, engagement and communications teams.
What does the role look like?
We are looking for a Research writer on the Continuous Intelligence Unit who writes content – website content, reports, posts, etc – based on ad hoc assessments on critical announcements and developments by companies as well as analysing and reporting on industry trends. The Research writer will focus on copy- and content-creation, editing, including developing any visuals and layouts to support our messages. Reporting into the Continuous Intelligence Unit Manager, the Research writer will lead and deliver content working closely with the others on the Continuous Intelligence Unit to help shape and structure findings and insights into digestible texts. The main responsibilities include:
Write up insights based on research on the structured ad-hoc assessments of critical developments by essential healthcare companies throughout the year, in collaboration with the Unit researcher and manager
Copywriting and copyediting. This involves working across a wide range of formats such as web copy and direct messaging, but also for any social media posts, FAQs and briefs for specific stakeholders or media as needed.
Ability to translate technical insights and complex industry data into clear, concise content for diverse audiences.
Bring content to life via layout and design. This includes supporting the Unit to convert their analysis into informative figures (graphs, charts, infographics, etc) and support their written findings.
Collaborating efficiently with other staff members, including those in the Publications team, the different engagement teams and the research programmes
Keeping oversight on industry performance and trends and responsible for analysis and reporting on the same.
Your skills include
Writing up research assessments on healthcare industry’s actions and insights for a range of audiences
Writing and editing quickly and crisply, and incorporating feedback as needed.
Tailoring content and making complex ideas accessible to specific audiences.
Identifying the story and making sure it is powerfully told, across both text and visuals.
Strong project management and time management skills.
Working directly with colleagues to help convert their insights and findings into clear pieces of communication.
Proofreading to ensure text is error-free (attention to detail) and in line with house style.
Working across multiple projects, with strong communication skills with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
What we are looking for
Essential: 1-3 years’ experience as a healthcare writer/editor, research writer or other relevant experience.
Relevant experience could include working as a healthcare journalist, publishing assistant, editor, content manager, in magazine journalism or in pharma or healthcare communications for a client-based organization.
Knowledge of the healthcare sector and/or the pharmaceutical industry is a plus
Experience using InDesign and InCopy is a plus.
Experience of working with researchers, analysts, and communications teams to develop editorial content that is visually appealing and excellently written.
Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
Team player, creative, problem solver, effective; Available to start asap;
