Access to medical oxygen: Why are we holding our breath?

Marijn discusses what gas companies that produce medical oxygen have done to scale up access to this lifesaving product. Using the findings from a research report, recently published by the Foundation's Medical Oxygen Programme, he sets out how these companies need to go further to address the chronic, longstanding shortages still faced in LMICs.

He notes that other stakeholders also have a role to play in creating conditions to enable a sustainable supply of medical oxygen, but underlines that "gas companies need to fully step into their role as unique and essential players within the global health ecosystem".

"What these companies have achieved so far has been disjointed and limited in geographic reach – with clear commitments for a systematic approach lacking."
