Steffi Van Uytfanghe to speak at webinar on medical oxygen access barriers in LMICs

Steffi Van Uytfanghe, Company Engagement Officer at the Access to Medicine Foundation, will speak at a webinar focused on medical oxygen and how technological innovation can expand access to the essential healthcare product. As a panellist, she will shed light on current supply chain constraints specific to medical oxygen in LMICs and how the Global Oxygen Alliance (GO₂AL) is addressing current barriers.

Date

21 November 2025

Location

Online

As a life-saving therapy, medical oxygen is central to healthcare systems worldwide, yet almost half of hospitals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have either an inconsistent supply of medical oxygen or no access at all.

Steffi Van Uytfanghe, Company Engagement Officer at the Access to Medicine Foundation, will speak as a panellist on a webinar hosted by Gasworld, “Medical Gases: Meeting the Demands of Modern Healthcare,” which will focus on the technological advancements, regulatory challenges and opportunities shaping the future of medical gas supply and delivery.

Panellists will discuss:

  • How innovations in medical gas delivery systems can improve medical care

  • Challenges faced by suppliers in ensuring consistent quality and meeting regulatory standards

  • How the rising demand for homecare oxygen and other medical gases are influencing the supply chain

Steffi plans to shed light on current supply chain constraints specific to medical oxygen in LMICs, and share how the Global Oxygen Alliance (GO₂AL’s) Community of Practice (CoP) is fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective problem-solving to tailor strategies to diverse health systems in LMICs and overcome access barriers.

About GO₂AL

GO₂AL is a collaborative platform of approximately 20 organisations and delegations, co-chaired by Unitaid and the Global Fund, and vice-chaired by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/WHO and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Facilitated by the Access to Medicine Foundation on behalf of GO2AL, the CoP meets several times a year to collaborate on improving access to medical oxygen and identify opportunities to bridge gaps in LMICs.
