Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on AMR, and the Royal Society will host 'The World Together Solving the Antibiotic Emergency' conference, convening global healthcare experts to discuss efforts in tackling AMR and strengthening health systems, food security, and climate resilience ahead of the 2024 UN General Assembly meeting in September.

Jayasree K. Iyer, CEO at the Access to Medicine Foundation, will attend the event as a roundtable participant and will share insights gleaned from the Foundation's AMR programme, including findings from reports covering responsible manufacturing, research and development (R&D), as well as appropriate access and stewardship. Additionally, she will highlight points outlined in the Foundation's Briefing on themes delegates to the UN General Assembly's High-Level Meeting should prioritise when engaging the pharmaceutical industry on combating AMR.

In furthering its contributions to the discourse on AMR, the Foundation will publish a new report on 23 May, which is the third in a series focusing on key areas pharmaceutical companies need to address to expand access to antibiotics and curb AMR. The report delves specifically into antimicrobial R&D, emphasising what pharma innovators can do to get newly developed drugs to people living in countries with a high burden of drug resistance.

About 'The World Together Solving the Antibiotic Emergency' conference

The conference will bring together representatives from various governments, international organisations, and multilateral groups and sectors to discuss the international response to AMR. It will also showcase the latest scientific and economic research on AMR and celebrate citizen and civil society campaigns and out-of-the-box engagement through the arts.
