The FT Global Pharma and Biotech Summit is hosted annually to bring together industry leaders and experts to engage on the latest trends and innovations in life sciences. This year’s overarching theme, “Driving life sciences innovation in a disrupted world”, will focus on new developments in areas such as drug discovery, clinical trials, market access and patient engagement.

Having spoken at last year’s summit, Access to Medicine Foundation CEO, Jayasree K. Iyer, has again been invited to participate at this annual event. This year, she will share her insights in a panel discussion on “Health Equity – How can pharma make a difference?”

Drawing on her knowledge, and the work of the Foundation, Jayasree will discuss how companies can do more to support health equity, including measures such as developing drugs tailored to the needs of diverse populations and collaborating with patient advocacy groups.

Jayasree will be joined on the panel by other experts, including:

  • George Katzourakis, Senior Vice President, Head of Europe, GSK

  • Fred Roeder, Managing Director, Consumer Choice Center

  • Şeyda Atadan Memiş, General Manager, UK and Ireland, Takeda

Key issues the panelists will address:

  • How committing to support health equity can be aligned with commercial priorities;

  • Whether R&D is evolving to reflect health equity goals;

  • Designing pharmaceutical companies’ clinical trials to be more racially inclusive;

  • The effects of policies, such as the new EU pharmaceutical legislation and the US Inflation Reduction Act, on supporting health equity for patients and their implications for business.
