In the spirit of advancing global health equity, the Access to Medicine Foundation and the Helmsley Charitable Trust will co-host a panel event alongside the 2025 World Health Assembly. Titled “Unlocking Access to Insulin: Advancing Public-Private Partnerships for Equitable Diabetes Care,” this event aims to explore practical solutions to address challenges in access to insulin for people living with type 1 diabetes.

Drawing on findings from the Access to Medicine Foundation’s upcoming report on access to diabetes care for children and young people, this event will feature two dynamic panels exploring the complex supply and demand challenges affecting insulin access — and the promising solutions to overcome them.

Claudia Martínez, Director of Research at the Foundation, will deliver the opening address. A diverse line-up of experts from the pharmaceutical industry, philanthropy, multilaterals, and individuals living with diabetes will share their insights, including:

  • H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, Ethiopia

  • Jon Fairest, Sanofi

  • Robert Lloyd, Eli Lilly

  • Carissa Vados, Novo Nordisk

  • Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo, Diabetes Youth Care

  • Bianca Hemmingsen, World Health Organization

  • James Reid, Helmsley Charitable Trust

The panel discussion will highlight adaptable approaches actively improving access to insulin and essential medicines on a global scale, based on successful initiatives, public-private partnerships, and innovative financing models.
