2023 London Global Cancer Week: Jayasree K. Iyer to speak on access to cancer treatments in LMICs

During 2023 London Global Cancer Week, Access to Medicine CEO Jayasree K. Iyer will join a roundtable discussion on “Building healthcare systems resilience in low- and middle-income countries”. She will focus on how pharmaceutical companies can expand access to their essential healthcare products, including cancer medicines, for people living in these countries.

Date

15 November 2023

Date

11 – 17 November

Location

London, UK

Format

Virtual and in-person

The Access to Medicine Foundation has been invited to attend and speak at the 2023 London Global Cancer Week – a series of coordinated international discussions and events that will be held both virtually and in London during the week of 11-17 November.

This year’s focus is on two key challenges facing many countries: the global necessity for reconstruction post-COVID-19 and how to how to address populations of cancer patients displaced by the impact of crises such as extreme weather conditions, famine and armed conflict. Ensuring access to effective and affordable healthcare treatments is critical to both these issues.

Roundtable discussion

Jayasree will join an invitation-only roundtable discussion on “Building healthcare systems resilience in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)”. Set to take place on Wednesday 15 November in London, the roundtable will be moderated by Alan Donnelly, Convenor of the G20 Health and Development Partnership and founder and Executive Chairman of Sovereign Strategy.

Joining the panel alongside other experts, Jayasree will highlight how patients in LMICs lack access to many essential medicines, particularly cancer treatments. She will also share insights on the role pharmaceutical companies, including generic medicine manufacturers, have in providing access to their healthcare products.

Specifically, Jayasree will draw on the Foundation’s work in mobilising pharmaceutical companies to expand access, including findings from the Access to Medicine Index and a recent report from the Foundation profiling the access-to-medicine efforts of some of the world’s largest generic and biosimilar medicine manufacturers.
