Martijn van Gerven is a Research Programme Manager at the Access to Medicine Foundation, leading the dedicated research teams for both the Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark (AMR) and the Generics and Biosimilars (G&BM) programmes. The AMR Benchmark evaluates what pharmaceutical companies are doing to bring antimicrobial resistance under control, highlighting where good practices are being implemented to encourage their wider uptake. The G&BM Programme works to identify the most effective approaches the industry can take to sustainably improve the availability and supply of quality-assured generic medicines in low- and middle-income countries.
Martijn holds a BSc and MSc in Nutrition and Health from Wageningen University & Research and focused on translating fundamental science into accessible innovations. He completed a minor in Immunology and Genetics at Stockholm University. In addition, he earned a degree for the completion of the MSc Track Entrepreneurship. Martijn also completed an internship at a Life Science consultancy where he researched and assisted Dutch biotech companies on their needs for business development support.
Before joining the Foundation, Martijn worked as a consultant with pharmaceutical companies to kickstart projects that enhance affordable, value-based and patient-centred healthcare.
