Johanna earned a Bachelor of Science from University College Maastricht and a Master's in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Amsterdam, with a specialisation in oncology and big data bioinformatics. Before joining the Foundation, she worked as a researcher in the Biochemistry Department at Maastricht University, contributing to a publication in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. She also served as the Oncology Track Representative and student liaison for the Biomedical Sciences Master's programme at the University of Amsterdam. Additionally, Johanna completed a remote internship conducting bioinformatic research for Harvard Medical School.

Johanna Kerins
Johanna Kerins is a Researcher at the Access to Medicine Foundation, currently working on the Generics and Biosimilars (G&BM) Programme, which evaluates how generic manufacturers are working to improve access to essential medicines in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a particular focus on treatments for conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, maternal health and sexual and reproductive health across the African continent.
Previously, Johanna worked as part of the research team for the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Programme, evaluating how companies are working to combat the global AMR crisis. There, she specialised in companies’ waste management practices as well as the strategies they implement to mitigate stockouts/shortages and ensure the quality of their products in LMICs.
