Medicin. Novo sikrer ulandenes adgang

Danish newspaper Politiken publishes a piece by Jayasree K. Iyer and Damiano de Felice. They give an overview of how Novo Nordisk performs in the 2014 Access to Medicine Index, and how the Danish pharma sector can address access to medicine.

Ien verden, hvor to milliarder mennesker stadig ikke har adgang til livsvigtige lægemidler, kan Danmark spille en væsentlig rolle. Lægemiddelindustrien tegner sig for ca. 70.000 jobs i Danmark, og lægemidler udgør mere end 10 procent af eksporten.

Medicon Valley – et område, der strækker sig fra Østdanmark til det sydlige Sverige – er et af Europas stærkeste biovidenskabelige kraftfelter.

Hvordan kan Danmark sikre sig en balance mellem økonomisk gevinst og socialt ansvar i forhold til de lægemiddelvirksomheder, der opholder sig i landet?

Access to Medicine Index er en upartisk rangliste over verdens 20 førende forskningsbaserede medicinalvirksomheder vedrørende deres bestræbelser på at lette adgangen til medicin for folk i udviklingslande. Indekset indfanger data om de mest belastende sygdomme i mere end 100 lande. Da adgangen til medicin er en facetteret sag, tager indekset højde for flere faktorer, fra forskning og udvikling til donationer, fra prisfastsættelse til immaterielle rettigheder og patenter.
