In tribute to Dilip Shah

We were deeply saddened to learn that Dilip Shah passed away on 22 February 2019. Dilip was one of the Foundation’s earliest supporters, advising as part of the Expert Review Committee from 2012 - 2018. Dilip’s extensive knowledge and experience of the pharmaceutical industry spanned over 50 years.

Often referred to as “the voice of the Indian pharmaceutical industry”, Dilip was an expert on intellectual property rights and international trade relations related to pharmaceuticals. He was the founder and Secretary-General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), and helped spearhead India's transformation to become one of the main generic drug producers in the world.

“Dilip was a strong advocate for affordable medicines worldwide, challenging industry and governmental leadership to ramp up solutions for innovative medicines to reach the poor,” said Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director of the Access to Medicine Foundation. “Dilip was a good friend and was always ready to contribute his vision and advice to the Foundation. He will be greatly missed.”

Dilip was also a member of numerous advisory boards including the CPhI International Advisory Board, the Board of Advisors of Pharmabiz.com, and Chair of the International Generic Pharmaceutical Alliance (IGPA).

Our thoughts and sympathy are with Dilip’s family and friends. We are grateful for the support and inspiration that he gave, not only to the Foundation but to the field of global health.
