How the Foundation is driving real progress toward global health equity

The Access to Medicine Foundation demonstrates how it leverages its evidence-based research and convening power to accelerate the realisation of change in regions where essential medicines are still out of reach, captured in a new ‘Health Heroes’ documentary. In collaboration with Global Health Council and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, ‘Health Heroes’ shines a light on those driving progress in global health and we are proud to be a part of the story.

Nearly 80% of the world’s population lives in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), yet essential medicines, such as vaccines, antibiotics and reproductive health products, remain out of reach in these regions. With global health threats at our doorstep, including the rise of drug-resistant infections, the threat of future pandemics and increasing rates of heart disease and cancer, bridging global access gaps is more urgent than ever.

The global health sector has already proven its ability to rally its efforts to confront complex public health challenges. Its success in mobilising a coordinated effort during the HIV crisis of the 1990s, and more recently, the unprecedented speed of the development of COVID-19 vaccines, stand as proof of the industry's ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges, setting the standard for what is possible when stakeholders unite their efforts. These critical moments also highlight the importance of prioritising LMICs from the onset, throughout partnerships and company strategies.

Together, we can seize momentum toward global health equity

Over the last two decades, the Access to Medicine Foundation has solidified its reputation as a leader in convening powerful players in the global health landscape to solve access issues. By leveraging our rigorous, evidence-based research, we drive industry accountability and steer company action that culminates in real change for people living in underserved regions of the world. However, there is still a long way to go before essential healthcare products become truly accessible to everyone. While innovation in medicine continues to surge, millions in LMICs still lack access to basic essential medicines.

The Foundation is committed to closing these gaps. Through strategic partnerships and funder engagement, we are expanding our mission-driven work to reach more communities.

To drive sustainable impact at scale, we invite governments, funders, institutional investors and individuals to invest in our evidence-based research and join us on the mission to make global health equity a reality.

We are very honoured to have been featured in the Global Health Council's ‘Health Heroes’ Docuseries, below, which shines a light on our evidence-based work and captures our convening power to catalyse real change in regions where essential medicines are still out of reach.
