Radio | Low-income countries face COVID-19 vaccine shortages. But they also need antibiotics, experts say

CEO Jayasree Iyer spoke with CBC host Peter Armstrong for Canada's Saturday morning podcast and radio show, Day 6.

"Long before the COVID-19 pandemic even started, there has been a silent but growing pandemic of drug resistance," Access to Medicine Foundation CEO Jaysree Iyer explained as she opened an episode of CBC Radio's podcast and radio show, Day 6.

In the context of global COVID-19 vaccine inequity, Iyer shared with listeners how lack of access to antibiotics and other antimicrobial products in low- and middle-income countries can be a driver of drug resistance internationally – and what the devastating consequences could be if this is allowed to escalate.

The interview with CBC host Peter Armstrong delves into what actions pharma companies are taking, according to the recent 2021 Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark; what they can do better; and how governments can help drive change.
