Improving access for women and children
Every woman should have access to the medicines and health products she needs throughout pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Every child should have the opportunity to survive and thrive. Yet for billions of people living in low- and middle-income countries, this remains out of reach.Â
Infectious diseases continue to place a disproportionate burden on women and children. Sepsis alone claims an estimated 3.4 million children's lives each year, with 85% of these deaths occurring before the age of five. For women, maternal sepsis accounts for approximately 11% of maternal deaths globally, making it one of the leading causes of preventable maternal mortality.Â
At the same time, millions of women face life-threatening complications during pregnancy and childbirth, while conditions such as cervical and breast cancer, diabetes and endometriosis are placing growing pressure on health systems. Together, these gaps contribute to poor maternal health outcomes, preventable illness and avoidable deaths among women and children, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Turning evidence into actionÂ
For more than 20 years, the Access to Medicine Foundation has been an independent, non-profit catalyst for change, using evidence to drive action that expands access to essential health products for people living in low- and middle-income countries.Â
The Foundation drives change through a proven model that combines rigorous evidence-based research with strategic engagement with pharmaceutical and healthcare companies to identify opportunities to expand access to essential health products. By unleashing the power of institutional investors and bringing together pharmaceutical companies, governments and global health partners, we help turn evidence into action and commitments into measurable impact.Â

Our actionÂ
Women and children cannot benefit from medical innovation if essential medicines and health products fail to reach them. The Access to Medicine Foundation catalyses companies to develop, deliver and scale health products needed to prevent and treat conditions ranging from pregnancy and childbirth complications to HIV, cervical and breast cancer, respiratory infections, sickle cell disease, diabetes and endometriosis. Â
By advancing access to life-saving healthcare products, the Foundation supports a future where more women and children can survive, live healthier lives and contribute to stronger families and communities. Â
Invest in accessÂ
Whether you are an individual, philanthropist or organisation, your contribution will help scale the Foundation's evidence-based research and change-making efforts, expanding access to essential health products for women and children in low- and middle-income countries.Â
We are seeking to raise €500,000 for this initiative to accelerate progress towards closing the health equity gap for women and children.Â
Every contribution will help create a future where more women experience safer pregnancies and healthier lives, and more children have the opportunity to survive, grow and reach their full potential.Â
