World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress 2019

Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director of the Access to Medicine Foundation will moderate a keynote panel on 7 November at the World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress in Washington.

The conference gathers global leaders in infectious diseases to meet, brainstorm and discuss the challenges and opportunities on seven topic areas, including antibiotic R&D, antimicrobial stewardship and infection control.

The panel discussion, 'What companies are doing to combat AMR and support appropriate use of anti-infective medicines' will include the following participants:

  • Moderator: Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director, Access to Medicine Foundation

  • Bruce Altevogt, Vice President and Head External Medical Engagement, Hospital Business Unit, Pfizer

  • Silas Holland, Director of Infectious Diseases Policy, Merck

  • Harshika Sarbajna, Global Head, Anti-infectives, Sandoz International GmbH

Gabrielle Breguelmans, Director of Research at the Foundation will also speak at the conference, joining a panel discussing how to improve manufacturing processes to curb antimicrobial resistance.

Jayasree K. Iyer and Gabrielle Breugelmans will draw on findings from the first ever comparison of pharmaceutical company actions to bring AMR under control - the Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark, launched by the Access to Medicine Foundation in 2018. The 2 edition of the Benchmark is due to be published in early 2020.
