Chatham House panel discussion: Margo Warren to discuss the role of partnerships in expanding access

The Access to Medicine Foundation’s Head of Policy, Margo Warren, will be sharing her expertise at an event organised by Chatham House that focuses on advancing healthcare in low- and middle-income countries through effective partnerships in the pharmaceutical industry.

Date

24 March 2023

DATE

Friday 24 March 2023

LOCATION

London, United Kingdom

FORMAT

In-person

Chatham House, in partnership with Boston University and Access Accelerated, is organising an event titled ‘Improving partnerships in the pharmaceutical industry’, aimed at highlighting the need for investment in measuring and understanding partnerships to develop innovative access strategies.

Margo will join a diverse group of senior policymakers, academics, and the private sector to discuss strengthening and alignment on measurement of public-private partnerships aimed at improving access to non-communicable disease prevention and treatment services in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Panel discussion

Efforts to achieve universal health coverage in LMICs have led to increased global health partnerships with the biopharmaceutical industry. While standard approaches to measuring and reporting on such partnerships have been adopted, challenges remain.

The event will feature two white papers on harmonising measurement standards and advancing the science of access, followed by a panel discussion on the role of partnerships in advancing access.

As a panelist, Margo will discuss how the Foundation stimulates change, with a particular emphasis on findings from the 2022 Access to Medicine Index. Drawing on her expertise, she will share insights on measuring the effectiveness of partnerships to improve access, and harmonising evaluation methods to improve efficiency and avoid duplication of efforts.

The panel will be chaired by Emma Ross - Senior Research Fellow, Global Health Programme. Other panelists include:

  • Michael Fürst – Global Head Social Business at biopharmaceutical company UCB

  • Hannah Kettler – Director of Design and Operationalization, COVAX, Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance
