Jayasree K. Iyer to speak at FT Global Pharma & Biotech Summit

Jayasree K. Iyer, CEO of the Access to Medicine Foundation, has been invited to speak at the Financial Times (FT) Global Pharma & Biotech Summit. As a panelist, she will lend her expertise on pharmaceutical companies’ role in furthering equitable global access to essential medicines and repairing public trust in the pharmaceutical industry.

Date

06 November 2024

Location

London, UK

The FT Global Pharma & Biotech Summit convenes executives from pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology firms, representatives from research organisations and experts in life sciences to discuss innovations in drug discovery, clinical trials, market access and patient engagement.

Jayasree will return to the Summit for the second year in a row to engage in conversations with influential members of the industry and share relevant research insights.

In her capacity as CEO of the Foundation, she will speak in the panel discussion, “Trust challenges in pharma – From public perception to meaningful action,” which provides an opportunity to explore factors contributing to patient and public distrust of pharmaceutical companies. Subtopics will include drug pricing, executive pay and medical misinformation. Jayasree will speak alongside:

- Michael Elliot, Vice President, Medical Affairs, Gilead Sciences

- Seyda Atadan Memis, General Manager UK and Ireland, Takeda

The panel, to be moderated by Ian Johnston, Global Pharmaceutical Correspondent at Financial Times, will explore such questions as:

  • What are the most prevalent trust concerns and how valid are they?

  • To what extent does lack of trust contribute to problems, such as poor medication adherence and hesitate to participate in clinical trials?

  • How can pharma companies increase patient trust?

In offering her perspective on these questions, Jayasree will draw on key findings from the upcoming 2024 Access to Medicine Index, highlighting pharmaceutical companies’ successful efforts, as well as areas of improvement, in furthering access to essential medicines in underserved countries.
