As AMR rises globally, so does the need for collaborative and coordinated action. To address this pressing challenge, the Access to Medicine Foundation is strengthening its efforts in this area and expanding its work. In late August, the Foundation published a report on responsible manufacturing, providing insights into sustainable practices within the pharmaceutical industry.

The Foundation's AMR programme team has been delivering informative lectures at the university since 2019, providing regular updates to audiences of medical students on the Foundation's work and latest findings. The lecture forms part of a one-month course on Global Health, focusing on LMICs with a high burden of diseases. It is co-organised with Marianne van Elteren, PhD, Senior Lecturer in Global Health at VUmc School of Medical Sciences.

During the lecture, Martijn will cover several key topics including:

  • The Access to Medicine Foundation's mission and objectives;

  • Insights from the AMR programme, focusing on the growing challenge of AMR;

  • Introduction to the Foundation's strategy for 2022-2026, aimed at expanding our work and mobilising key players in the industry;

  • Recommendations for sustainable and responsible manufacturing practices, as explored in the August 2023 report on responsible manufacturing.;

  • The real-life impact and implications of the Foundation's work in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

This lecture will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the Foundation's initiatives and our impact on addressing healthcare challenges in LMICs.
