At the World Vaccine Congress, Europe’s largest vaccine event, the Access to Medicine Foundation will share insights on how policy and investment trends are influencing the supply chains of vaccines, especially in historically underserved regions of the world.
Jayasree K. Iyer, CEO of the Foundation, will moderate a panel entitled “Beyond Borders: Europe’s Strategic Role in Powering Vaccine Innovation and Transforming the Global Vaccine Landscape,” focusing on the importance of partnerships between private and public sectors, which will delve into the following questions:
How can Europe’s ecosystem of innovation hubs, regulatory frameworks and public-private partnerships accelerate the next generation of breakthrough vaccines?
What strategies and incentives are needed to foster Europe’s emerging biotech companies and small- and medium-sized enterprises into leaders in vaccine innovation?
How can regulatory frameworks evolve to support rapid innovation while maintaining essential vaccine safety and efficacy standards?
In an increasingly complex global health landscape, how can Europe balance domestic innovation priorities with its responsibility to ensure equitable worldwide vaccine access?
The panel’s participants will include representatives from the European Medicines Agency, the European Commission and the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland.
Moy Bracken, Research Unit Manager at the Foundation, will also speak in a panel on the final day of the event, “Strengthening Partnerships and Local Networks for Infectious Disease Trials.” She will share how the pharmaceutical industry and other stakeholders can create sustainable infrastructure for running clinical trials in endemic regions – which is currently lacking, as identified in the 2024 Access to Medicine Index – drawing on research-backed recommendations for adjusting current strategies and models.
