Foundation to host event on access to diagnostics on the sidelines of WHA 2026

Diagnostic tests are vital for determining which treatments are needed and can be used to monitor and manage disease. In many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), factors such as high costs, weak laboratory infrastructure, regulatory challenges and fragmented coordination lead to gaps in access to these essential tools, which can compromise treatment and endanger lives.
The Access to Medicine Foundation is hosting an Amsterdam Session on the sidelines of the 2026 World Health Assembly, ‘Achieving equitable access to infectious diseases diagnostics: learnings and pathways forward,’ focusing on expanding access to diagnostic tools for infectious diseases in LMICs.
HHeld under the Chatham House Rule, Amsterdam Sessions enable open, structured dialogue to identify practical solutions, share best practices, and address barriers to accessing health products. This session brings together diverse stakeholders to share effective approaches and strengthen collaboration to improve the affordability, availability, and implementation of diagnostic tools.
The discussion will be structured in two parts. The first round will highlight concrete examples from companies operating in the diagnostics space, including specific examples related to enabling access to diagnostics for infectious diseases, as well as antimicrobial resistance. The second round will be a moderated discussion focused on how to build sustainable diagnostic capacity in countries, including policy and regulatory frameworks, and how improved access can be achieved in practice.
A short post-meeting report will be published on our website following the meeting summarising the main messages, recommendations and takeaways.
