Foundation Team in Geneva for 70th WHO World Health Assembly

The Access to Medicine Foundation team will be in Geneva for the 70th WHO World Health Assembly. The Foundation’s team will join various side-events focusing on the role of pharmaceutical companies in access to medicine.

Date

15 May 2017

Access to Medicine Foundation team members will be in Geneva for the 70th WHO World Health Assembly on 22-31 May. The Foundation’s Executive Director, Jayasree K. Iyer, will be joined by Damiano de Felice, Danny Edwards and Tara Prasad, to participate in a series of meetings and side-events on access to medicine and how pharmaceutical companies can be encouraged to do more.

From the Foundation, the WHA will be attended by:

  • Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director

  • Wim Leereveld, Founder and member of the Supervisory Board

  • Damiano de Felice, Deputy Director of Strategy

  • Danny Edwards, Research Programme Manager for the Access to Medicine Index

  • Tara Prasad, Company Engagement Manager

The Access to Medicine Foundation has been invited to various WHA side-events that focus on the role of pharmaceutical companies in access to medicine. The topics on the table include achieving the SDGs, combating antimicrobial resistance, ensuring access to vaccines and addressing global shortages of medicines and vaccines. They have been organised by or in collaboration with, among others, Roche, Novo Nordisk, PATH, Novartis, Takeda and GSK. For example, Jayasree Iyer will participate in a panel discussion on “Driving Change in NCDs through Innovative and Sustainable Collaborations.” Here, she will define the characteristics of successful collaborations and partnerships to address NCDs. These characteristics have been distilled by the Foundation during its 10 years’ experience of making the Access to Medicine Index.
