European Forum Alpbach: Investing in Innovation – Priming Europe as Pharmaceutical Location

On Friday, 27 August 2021, Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director of the Access to Medicine Foundation, will join the the European Forum Alpbach (EFA) to discuss Europe's position as a pharmaceutical location.

Date

27 August 2021

The EFA brings together young people, leading scholars, thinkers, scientists, policy makers, business people and civil society actors from around the world to engage and contribute to the mission of shaping a stronger Europe and what this means for low- and middle-income countries.

This virtual session will focus on COVID-19's role in putting "the discussion about Europe as a pharmaceutical location back on the agenda."

Panelists will discuss questions such as:

  1. How can we minimise current dependencies and avoid them in the future?

  2. How can we guarantee a steady supply of medicine?

  3. Can we initiate a re-industrialisation in the pharmaceutical sector in Europe?

  4.  What should the ultimate goal of a European pharmaceutical strategy be?

The panel will be moderated by Katja Gentinetta, Vice President, European Forum Albach.

Speakers in this panel will include:

  • Wolfgang Philipp, Head of Unit for Health Emergency Response and Vaccines, DG SANTE, European Commission

  • Jayasree K. Iyer, Executive Director,  Access to Medicine Foundation
