AHB Symposium 2023: Mary Moehlmann to speak on lessons learnt from COVID-19

Africa Health Business (AHB), in collaboration with the African Union and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), is hosting a Symposium on ‘The role of the private sector in Africa’s New Public Health Order’. The Access to Medicine Foundation's Engagement Lead-LMICs, Mary Wambui Moehlmann, will be speaking at the event.

Date

29 June 2023

Date

29 June 2023

Location

Johannesburg, South Africa

Time

16:00 - 17:30 (SAST)

Format

In-person

Mary Wambui Moehlmann will be attending the AHB Symposium in South Africa in her capacity as the Access to Medicine Foundation's Engagement Lead for low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). She has been invited to share her insights on "The role of the private health sector in disease surveillance and pandemic response".

In her presentation, Mary will focus on how the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the delivery of healthcare and exposed critical gaps in health systems, particularly in LMICs. She will also share insights on pandemic preparedness, with emphasis on how this can inform future efforts to address global health challenges.

The Foundation has actively engaged on the issues Mary will be discussing, including in a 2021 Amsterdam Session, which brought together healthcare experts from large research-based pharma companies and generic manufacturers to identify how the experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic can be used to solve chronic issues in access to healthcare in LMICs. Mary will draw on this, as well as the 2022 Access to Medicine Index, as she engages with participants at the Symposium.

AHB 2023

The AHB Symposium 2023 will convene African healthcare leaders to explore "The role of the private sector in Africa's New Public Health Order" and to celebrate the launch of Africa's New Public Health Order by the Africa CDC. The symposium's two-day format provides an opportunity for participants to discuss innovative solutions to the five core areas of the new health standard for Africa.
