Deirdre Cogan to speak at BSAC Spring Conference 2019

On Thursday 21 March, Deirdre Cogan from the Access to Medicine Foundation will speak at the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) Spring Conference in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.

Date

21 March 2019

Deirdre will be speaking in the plenary session: Spotlight on AMR and infection management. She will present main insights from the Foundation's recent whitepaper, authored by Deirdre and titled 'Shortages, stockouts and scarcity: The issues facing the security of antibiotic supply and the role for pharmaceutical companies'.

Global antibiotic supply is patchy, complex and at risk of collapsing. The white paper unpacks the systemic factors making antibiotic supply so fragile. Deirdre will link the causes of antibiotic shortages to recommendations for governments, regulators, the pharmaceutical industry and others. To show where action is possible, Deirdre will identify examples of how some pharmaceutical companies are already strengthening supply chains and demonstrate further areas where action is needed.

BSAC Spring Conference
The BSAC Spring Conference provides an overview of the infection management and antimicrobial resistance landscape, offering insights into the latest in drug discovery, socio-economic challenges, new and emerging treatments, and debates and challenges regarding policies and usage of antibiotic regimens. The conference brings together key opinion leaders, researchers and clinicians from across Europe and further afield.
