Claudia Martínez to speak at AHMTEC 2025

Claudia Martínez, Director of Research at the Foundation, has been invited to lead a panel at the African Healthcare Manufacturing Trade Exhibition and Conference (AHMTEC 2025), focusing on how local manufacturers in Africa can leverage licensing agreements to improve access to medicine across the continent.

Date

08 October 2025

Location

Accra, Ghana

Speakers

Claudia Martínez

Director of Research

In October, the African Healthcare Manufacturing Trade Exhibition and Conference (AHMTEC 2025) will take place in Accra, Ghana, convening manufacturers, industry leaders, policymakers, government representatives, suppliers and investors.

This year’s conference, entitled “Collaborate to Compete: Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Growth,” will centre around how to strengthen supply chains and bolster local manufacturing to create sustainable access to medicine and health outcomes across the continent.

Claudia Martínez, Director of Research at the Foundation and Vanessia Owusu-Ansah, the Foundation’s low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) Engagement Coordinator will attend, with Claudia leading a panel exploring how Africa-based manufacturers can seize licensing opportunities to strengthen their role in the continent’s healthcare ecosystem.

Drawing on the Access to Medicine Foundation’s research on large R&D-based pharmaceutical companies’ participation in licensing agreements, Claudia will lead a discussion on how these arrangements can serve both public health priorities in Africa and business objectives. Licensing has become a critical mechanism for improving access to quality-assured medicines and health technologies in LMICs, and for African manufacturers, represents an opportunity to expand production capacity locally, diversify companies’ product portfolios and improve availability of essential healthcare products.

The session will provide practical insights for African manufacturers looking to position themselves as partners in global supply chains and insights on how pharmaceutical companies and investors can continue to contribute to more equitable access through licensing.
