Polio vaccine candidate hoped to end mutation risk

Inga Vesper for SciDev.Net writes about a new polio vaccine candidate that has been approved for emergency use.

In the article, the author writes about nOPV2, a new orally-administered polio vaccine candidate and the first of its kind that "works against poliovirus type 2, a mutated form of the virus that has been responsible for outbreaks in Africa and Asia."

Claudia Martinez, Research Programme Manager for the Access to Medicine Index, is quoted in the article about the importance of ensuring vaccine safety, as well as the crucial role that governments and global health organisations play in ensuring vaccines are accessible and affordable for those who need them.
